The cloud was originally designed to be mobile, social, and flexible so that businesses could transform and innovate. This year the topic of discussion is less about the public cloud and more about the hybrid cloud. This hybrid cloud combines the public cloud with applications and data from the private cloud.
For many the option of this hybrid cloud makes a lot more sense, and people are more willing to trust this cloud format. This model appeases those who are not yet ready to trust the public clouds with all their company information. The reality is that many enterprise level companies will never be comfortable executing a completely public cloud strategy. A hybrid cloud allows for the anytime, anywhere access of the public cloud but also allows enterprises to keep their private information onsite. This makes it easy to see why the hybrid cloud is predicted to become the industry standard with over half of large businesses choosing this option by 2017.
Hybrid clouds may be the hot topic but is it right for your organization? This cloud model will provide the most benefit to enterprises and other large businesses. While many organizations consider a hybrid model the first step, there may not be a benefit to this for small or medium sized companies. These smaller organizations may not have the development resources to manage both the onsite environment and the public cloud. Often the time and cost benefits would not be worth the effort compared to the enterprise level organizations that are equipped with teams and have a larger benefit for applications remaining on location.
